The part I don't get is all of the "TAX THE RICH" signs. How can anyone think that the govt has "got it right, we just need to tax the big earners to pay for it"? Foolishness me thinks.

Rob, socialism or communism are most certainly not the only alternatives to changing the status quo. It is that kind of ignorance the power elite use to emotionally manipulate the message to the less informed masses who make up the right.

What you fail to mention is that the regulations to restrain Wall Street, put in place after the 1929 crash, have been systematically eliminated piece by piece starting in the 1980's. The right wing talking point that free markets can and will regulate themselves has proven once again to be a false ideology.

The lack of regulation allowed the "too big to fail" corporations to be created. It allowed the quest of greed to go unchecked. What the banksters and Wall Street traders did was immoral & unethical, but not illegal. Now they are using some of their ill earned billions to influence law makers to keep the system in a way that favors them. They buy the airwaves to cater to their message and use it to create the fear of evil socialism. And while you are being distracted, they have their hands in your pocket robbing you blind.

Thank you rasta for making my point in words I could not! I could not agree more, as gov got looser with regulations banks got more lenient and a part of that (how much a part debatable but still a part) 99% taking loans they knew they could not afford, it is just stupid to blame just wall street, yes they played a role but so did many other areas of our life

I like your summarization. I feel about the same way. One of the protesters I heard mentioned that they were protesting Wall street greed. Well OK, but no matter where you go or what type of society you live in there will be greedy people - greedy for money or greedy for power (doesn't much make a difference). Does demonizing Wall street help the economy? I don't think so.

It is so difficult to have your cake and eat it too.
